When I Met You: Sophie Rose Meyers

I WAS THERE WHEN YOU WERE BORN

I think it was the most wonderful gift your mommy has ever given me; allowing me to be in the delivery room when you were born.  It was a very exciting day.  Mommy and daddy went in the night before and grandpa and I stayed with Brynn.  As early as I could I got over to the hospital to wait for you to come. I didn’t have to wait long.  Before we knew it you decided it was time to make your grand entrance into the world.

YOUR VERY FIRST BREATH

Just thinking about that moment when you came into this world and took your first breath makes my heart beat faster, makes my eyes all misty. You are, quite simply, a miracle.  God knew you before you were born, He put you together inside your mommy, and He was there, in that room, as you took your first breath and gave your first lusty cry.  “Hello, everybody.. I”m Sophie”.

ACTUALLY.. WE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT YOUR NAME WAS

Your mommy and daddy didn’t decide on your name before you were born.  I think they were waiting to see you.  I saw the way they looked at each other as you were handed to your mom for that very first time.  There was so much love in their eyes for each other and for you.  It didn’t take too long for them to decide after meeting you that you were Sophie Rose Meyers, Brynnie’s little sister, God’s precious gift to our family.

HOW BIG ARE YOU SOPHIE? SO BIG!

What a big girl you were.  You weighed 9lb; 12.8 oz.  WOW… You were strong and healthy and after you got a few breaths, pink and healthy.

FOOTPRINTS

The nurse was very special because she was a good friend of your mommy.  She took very good care of you as she got you cleaned up, weighed, measured, and got your footprints made.  You didn’t seem very happy about this process for the most part. I think you were eager to get back to your mommy.

AH… NOW THAT’S BETTER

Finally, after all of the clean-up and stats were completed you got to go back to your mommy.  You were very happy about that.  You knew her heartbeat; after all, you had been listening to it for 9 months while you grew inside her.  You knew her voice, you knew her touch, and in her arms, and at her breast you were truly home.

DADDY WAS THERE, TOO

When you had to leave mommy and go back to get warmed up again, daddy stayed right beside you, with his hand in yours.  Your daddy is my baby, you know, and it made my heart sigh and smile to see how much he loved you.

DADDY’S HANDS

Your daddy’s hands will always be there to love and comfort you.

YOUR DADDY’S HEART

Will always love you and be there for you in good times and bad times.

BIG SISTER, MEET LITTLE SISTER

Grandpa and I went to get Brynn, your big sister, to bring her to the hospital to meet you.  She was so excited!  I think it’s fair to say that she immediately fell in love with you.

SHE WANTED TO SEE EVERY PART OF YOU

Look at the delight in Brynn’s face as she watched you.  She was fascinated by your soft head, your sweet face, and your tiny hands and feet.  We watched Brynn grow up a bit right before our eyes as she proudly took on her new role, BIG SISTER.

I wish I had the words to describe my feelings at that moment, sweet Sophie.  My baby holding both of his babies.  My heart was so full of thanksgiving and love.

BEFORE WE KNEW IT IT WAS TIME FOR YOU TO GO HOME

Daddy got you all dressed and ready to go….

WAITING

As with most thing in life, there was a bit of a wait, and you were getting a bit impatient!

HAPPILY HOME

It was a happy day when we brought you home.  Your life with your family was truly beginning now.  Of course there was a whole parade of family and friends who came to see you. We all just wanted to cuddle you in our arms, smell your ‘new baby’ smell, feel your soft skin, and whisper prayers of dedication and thanksgiving.

THOSE FIRST FEW DAYS

I must admit I treasured those first few days.  They were quiet, peaceful days of getting to know you.

SMILE.. AND SAY CHEESE

You know by now, sweet Sophie, that granny has a ‘camera’ problem. I am always taking pictures.  And of course, we had to get a few ‘formal’ photos taken of you, too.

Oh, my sweet Sophie

There aren’t enough words to tell you how much I love you.  I, too, loved you before you were born and when I met you I loved you even more.

OH, GRANNY…

Yes, I know that they photos will make you blush some day.  But I also hope they make you smile.  When you see them think.. ‘my granny really loved me’

GRANDPA

This time, grandpa was able to be there to meet you right away, too.  I can assure you that he will always love you, be happy to push the swing one more time, and he’s always good for an episode or two of Peppa Pig (just ask Brynnie).
