The plan is to move to the mountains… 45 minutes from Boulder, 1 ½ hours from Denver… a new mountain community called Roosevelt Ridge. And on the plane to Denver to attend a Roosevelt Ridge HOA meeting recently it suddenly occurred to me that this could be one of those moments when you ALMOST get to start over with a blank slate. After all, no one knows you at all. You have no history… only a future. And it was then, flying along at 35,000 feet, that I decided to become Zelda.
We tried it out on our realtor Wes on a day in Denver spent looking for a loft. “My name is Zelda, Wes…” unfortunately Wes had already met Karen on a previous trip so the transition wasn’t easy. We all bantered about the potential much of the day and finally, when we met Deanna the sales rep for Riverfront Park, the moment came..
Her hand was extended my way.. and I did it. “Zelda,” I said smoothly with hardly any smirk at all, “Nice to meet you”. We all kept a straight face and Zelda it was all through the showing in the Promenade Loft building. And then, of course, fate intervened.. and we decided to buy!!!
Unmasked… Of course it was Karen Kaiser on the offer to buy! Luckily Deanna seemed to understand, and Zelda had another chance. Though I haven’t introduced myself to anyone else as Zelda, she is still apart of this new adventure.
“What would Zelda do?”… has become my secret inner conversation. I decided Zelda would only eat half of her sandwich.. She wouldn’t let achy knees keep her from doing anything.. Gracious sakes.. Zelda would wake up each day and put on MAKEUP!!! How fun.. How empowering!
Back home in Shark Key, where Karen lives, we’re spending our days planning our house in Roosevelt Ridge, gathering ideas to redecorate our ‘transition’ loft in Denver, doing our web work, walking, Ralph, having dinner with our good friends John and Sue… but Zelda is still alive and well waiting patiently for our Shark Key house to sell in this hurricane shattered market.
As I said... New beginnings are exciting and terrifying. Transitions provide uneasy passage between one life and the next. Thank goodness, Zelda floats above all of this chaos… I like her and the promised of the new life she has chosen.
