On the heels of Carl Saunders' three other CD's Out Of The Blue, Eclecticism, or Be Bop Big Band we have released another CD—and this one was recorded live.
Can You Dig Being Dug? was beautifully recorded by Tim Pinch, at two dates at Charlie O’s in Van Nuys, California. It is a mix of standards (“There Will Never Be Another You”, “Yesterdays”, “One Note Samba”) and originals. Backing Carl are Christian Jacob, Dave Stone, and Santo Savino. These guys have played together a lot, and it shows. You'll love the interaction. Turn up the volume and you’ll feel like you’re at a front table. If you haven’t heard Carl in a live setting before, you’re in for an awakening.
Can You Dig Being Dug? has it all... burning bebop, blues, gentle bossas, and romantic ballads. Beautifully recorded, exactly as it happened in front of a hip and enthusiastic audience. We've packed more than 77 minutes (and I’d hate to think how many notes) on this one, but even so, you'll find it over all too soon. It’s impossible to sit still. You’ll find your head is either bobbing with the groove or shaking in disbelief at the amazing things you’re hearing. This is happy music.
