The Last Key West Sunset?
How do you load up the car and leave the Keys after a sunset in the back country? There's nothing like a Key West sunset to remind you how easy it is to catch 'Keys Disease"

This has been the strangest year. Any season that begins with hurricane winds and waves pounding on your back window is bound to be strange. Where did the time go? Recovering took time.. traveling took time.. and our surprisingly successful web business took more time. Somehow it took six months before we found the time to get into the boat late in the day, head out to the back country, anchor in the blue green water to wait for the sunset then race the fading light the 5 miles back to Shark Key. What a magical experience… and surely the best of what Key West has to offer.

In three days we’ll be leaving.. loading up the car and heading north for almost six months. We’re leaving our home in the capable hands of Roger Emmons hoping he finds a buyer. Our decision to leave the Keys and move to Colorado is ever so logical. The tropical heat doesn’t appeal to Michael.. the isolation, cold and fog of the island don’t wear well on me… it makes sense to find a 4-season home where we can have the remote beauty of the mountains and the amenities of the cities of Denver and Boulder. After all.. we can vacation in the tropics, but isn’t it time we found a sensible place to live?

There’s every good reason not to live in Key West and yet… All it takes is a tropical night out in the back country… no one in sight but the herons, pelicans and osprey… the warmth of the afternoon sun providing the perfect counterpoint to the cool ocean breezes... Beach chairs on the boat.. a pitcher of margaritas.. KEYS DISEASE…

Was this the last Key West sunset?
